In Surah Ibrahim (14:7), Allah states: ''Remember, your Lord proclaimed: 'I shall give you more if you are grateful; but if you are thankless then surely My punishment is very great.' " What does being ''grateful'' to Allah mean, and how do I thank him or be grateful to him? Muslims often use the Arabic phrase "Alhamdulillah" to thank and praise Allah for all the blessings in their lives. As the language of Islam is Arabic, it is recommended to pronounce Alhamdulillah according to the Arabic pronunciation rules and Quranic Tajweed. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) enjoined that and said: "Whoever does you a favour, then reciprocate, and if you cannot find anything with which to reciprocate, then pray for him until you think that you have reciprocated him." Gratitude is a quality that Allah loves so much that He will grant for it rewards immediately and is guaranteed. For other qualities, Allah does at times put a condition.
